Real Time for 40 Gigabit Ethernet
Kithara Software, specialist for Windows real time, has announced support for 40 Gigabit Ethernet. The Network Module of the Windows extension Kithara RealTime Suite allows for real-time network communication with up to 40 gigabits per second.
In the wake of the continued development of the company’s real-time network drivers as well as the included support for nearly every Intel Ethernet controller, Kithara for the first time has been able to reach the 40 gigabits mark. Thanks to the support for the Intel controller XL710 within the Windows real-time extension, the previously attainable Ethernet data rate of 10 Gbit/s has been quadrupled.
“Due to our long-standing experience with real-time Ethernet we are today in a position where we are able to support almost every network controller by Intel and Realtek. Of course we do not just want to scale up Kithara RealTime Suite horizontally but expand it vertically as well, which is why we are excited to have reached this new milestone in real-time Ethernet performance”, Uwe Jesgarz, managing director of Kithara Software GmbH, explained.
XL710 cards include connectors for the Enhanced Quad Small Form-factor Pluggable Transceiver (QSFP+), a four lane version of the SFP+ that is commonly used for 10 Gigabit Ethernet. Besides the simultaneous data transfer with four 10 gigabit channels, QSFP+ especially enables the use of a single channel for 40 Gbit/s. Belonging to the same family of controllers, X710 is being supported with the same development as well.
