Big Automotive Data with Real-Time MDF
Kithara Software, innovator for PC-based real time, has announced the implementation of the standard for measurement data MDF into Kithara RealTime Suite. The integration of the data format into the real-time system allows for deterministic storing of measurement data, especially for the development of automotive systems.
With the support for MDF 4.1 within the real-time environment by Kithara, large amounts of complex hierarchically structured measurement data can be immediately written as well as read. This way, thanks to the real-time capability, captured raw data are made available as lossless MDF files for further application.
“Due to the prevalence of MDF, prominently in automotive engineering, the support for the format represented a logical step for Kithara. In particular, raw measurement data of the automotive bus systems CAN, FlexRay, LIN and Automotive Ethernet can be stored as MDF. That fact that we have already been successfully supporting these busses for years, made this implementation all the more important”, Uwe Jesgarz, managing director of Kithara Software GmbH, explained.
Standardized by ASAM, MDF is a binary file format for measurement data. The de facto standard for measurement tasks, for instance in the automotive industry, excels specifically in fast and space-saving storage and compression of captured data. The format also includes high-performance functions for the efficient sorting and compressing of data sets. Furthermore, since MDF is an open standard, it is considered to be future-proof as well.
As with the support of the file format PCAPng with Kithara RealTime Suite, the MDF integration is based on the Storage Module, with which the company already in 2016 has successfully entered the application field of Big Data. Further expansions and connections for the field of real-time data storage are already planned.
