200 Gigabit Real-Time Ethernet

200GbE

Kithara Software, specialist for real time, has announced support for 200 Gigabit Ethernet. The new version 11.16 of the real-time operating system Kithara RealTime Suite (KRTS) thus enables network transmission speeds of up to 200 gigabits per second.

PCIe-4 cards with the E810-2CQDA2 Ethernet controller from Intel can now be used in conjunction with the Kithara KRTS real-time system. The functionality, in principle, is based on the support for 100 Gigabit Ethernet, as the same hardware interface is used twice to reach this 200 Gigabit Ethernet milestone.

For Kithara, the further development of new Ethernet technologies is a continuous process and an important pillar of the company, as many solutions of the Kithara RTOS are based on Ethernet. Additionally, reaching the 200-gigabit mark is particularly relevant due to the ever rapidly increasing requirements in industry and research.

As was the case with the support for 100 Gigabit Ethernet in real time, QSFP28 transceivers (Quad Small Form Factor Pluggable with four lanes of 28 Gbit/s each) are used for this as well. However, for this specific 200 GbE implementation, two ports are used simultaneously in order to double the data rate accordingly, even in a real-time context.

In addition, both ports of the PCIe card can also be split separately into individual connections with different speeds using a fan-out cable, i.e. 1×100 Gbit/s, 2×50 Gbit/s or 4×25 Gbit/s.
